T O P I C R E V I E WRegardesPlateroAny opinions? My criteria:--Must be affordable.--MUST have my skin tone available/have a wide range available. --Must not irritate my skin/cause issues--Easily available/not likely to be discontinued; ideally, something I can just go buy and not have to order onlineMy main reason in asking is that I wonder if this might make my skin look better/if I may be sensitive/allergic to some of the things in makeup and if making a switch might be good for me.Suggestions?RegardesPlateroeditThat database that others have posted will not work on my computer. Some of the prices for some of the brands are obscene. RegardesPlateroAlso, I use liquid foundation. I hate powder ones because they don't give me enough coverage. I've recently stopped using my translucent powder, too, because it's tricky to avoid inhaling it (I try to avoid that). So, I wouldn't be using powder, unless they have a pressed translucent powder or something. I like the feel of translucent powder, but it has to be Platero-friendly. Edit: Finally picked a brand. We'll see how it goes! The brand that I had been using had methylparaben in it (the mascara), so yeah, that's going in the trash. Stawr*hides face* I spent 29 dollars on foundation at the fancy grocery store. That is beyond splurging for me. (though I did have a coupon)called Zuzu I believe. I've been wanting to look it up on skin deep but it looks like their site will be down for a while. I think next time I will just buy natural/organic/etc lotion and mix it with natural powder. And tada, natural foundation. RegardesPlateroIn all honesty, I'm kind of fed up and frustrated with trying to buy better products. For one thing, some things recommended on the site thedailygreen.com have some of the ingredients that, on other pages, they say are no-nos. Yeah, that's the sound of credibility flushed down the toilet right there. Another thing is that some sites and magazines make me feel paranoid and anxious reading them. Like a "want-a-drink" or "want-a-cigarette" feeling (I don't smoke but I'm guessing this is what the feeling is like). Something else that annoys me is that a lot of those sites use the words "may", "link", etc. As in, they are only guessing that some substances might be harmful and can't give a 100% certain yes-no answer. Given that I have a high level of anxiety, it's harmful for me to worry at this high degree, especially if it might not be worth it. They have no certainty on them, and also can't tell me how much is harmful, if things are harmful if you use them only in small amounts at a time and for short durations, and other things of that nature. Part of me is wondering if this is all mass hysteria. I'm torn about what to think. I just feel frustrated by all of it. I also get frustrated by the attitude that some (not you) "green" people have--that uppity, holier-than-thou, "me-enlightened you-moron" attitude that some bloggers/magazines/other publications seem to have. And, too, some of the prices for some allegedly "healthy" products are just obscene. On top of that, judging from reviews of products that I've read, some of the "safe" ones are ineffective, have problems (like sunscreens that leave white spots all over and don't absorb right), and are basically snake oil. As I said earlier, some have no-no ingredients but are still on thedailygreen.com's list of recommended products. And the Skin Deep database doesn't even work anymore. As I posted on another thread, there are also issues with that database as well. Moral of the story: we're all screwed no matter what, unless we live in bubbles.YinI don't use makeup but FWIW Whole Foods have a huge selection of natural makeup. Have you looked there, Platero?RegardesPlateroNot yet.I need foundation--not a lot, but enough for coverage. Mascara, I really want. I don't really need a lipstick except once in a blue moon. Blush, I look like clown no matter what, so I don't like it.Sunscreen, need that; just bought some.RegardesPlateroAnd the thing is, even recommended "organic" brands have bad stuff in them sometimes.I still have tons of questions (see "angst angst angst" thread).I still don't have clear answers about (a) if stuff is REALLY harmful or just casually linked (in some cases; others are clear); (b) how much of it do you have to have to be seriously harmed/compromised; (c) is anything better/worse than anything else; (d) in what concentration are they harmful, and other questions, too. So many questions, really, and no satisfactory answers. I want to be healthy, but I can't live in a bubble, either. It actually matches my skin tone!! SQUEE!!!!And the formula is SO NICE. It feels very nice on my skin, and I don't need nearly as much of it as I did of my old product. It will probably last longer. It's worth the few extra bucks--and it's still affordable and reasonable, not like some products. Their prices are sane. Price IS important to me. I know that too-cheap products are probably "too good to be true", but I do expect reasonable, affordable items. I resent companies that charge outrageous prices; I can't maintain that.Mascara arrived too, but I haven't tried it yet.I will never go back to my old stuff!!I plan on ordering more of this; am going to see if I can find it locally first. I don't like ordering online. It is very helpful that you gave us the actual brand names and descriptions of the products you have personally used. Now, I want to try them too!
